The Barge Inn is a Wadworth pub, so straightaway you’re assured the beer is going to be excellent. Ah, but there’s more! This is a lovely place to go for a drink, for lunch, or dinner, and it pulls plenty in because of the gorgeous setting. It’s right on the waterside, right by the Kennet & Avon canal, so when the weather’s nice you can sit outside and soak it all up, if you’ll excuse the pun – the sunshine, the blue skies, ducks dabbling on the water, willows lazily dipping their branches beneath the surface; lovely. If it’s raining, tuck yourselves up in a cosy corner and stay inside and be warmed by the log fires. Food is pub favourites with plenty of interesting twists – Pie of the Day with veg and mash, Catch of the Day in a Wadworth 6X Gold Beer batter with mushy peas and chips, Dry aged sirloin steak, Meatless farm cottage pie, that kind of thing. Sandwiches at lunchtimes too, a children’s menu and a gluten free menu.
