The Barrington Boar, Barrington, Somerset
This traditional village pub is just up the road from National Trust owned Barrington Court. It’s retained that quintessential character synonymous with country pubs - flags on the floors, open fires and exposed beams; the heritage colours and classic furnishings work well with the quirky bits and pieces and the modern touches - it all goes.
If you just want a sandwich for lunch there’s a good choice and you’ll get hand cut chips and a dressed salad with it; if you fancy something more substantial there’s plenty on the mains menu to tempt you - things like roasted duck breast, pan fried sea bass fillet, and slow braised Mediterranean vegetables. There’s also a lighter meals option with Cumberland sausage and mash, and local smoked salmon salad on it.
The ambience is relaxing, as with most country inns, so it’s a good one to call at for lunch or a drink if you’re out and about around these parts. Booking advised for large groups.
