The Battered Fryer, Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset
If you find you have a craving for fish and chips when you’re in Burnham-on-Sea on your group holidays in Somerset, head to the Battered Fryer. The sea air seems to have that affect, doesn’t it? All of a sudden you think “Hmm, I fancy fish and chips, out of a bag, or wrapped in newspaper, the proper way” and off you go, in search of something to satiate that desire.
Well, you might not get your chips in a bag or wrapped in newspaper but what you will get is a decent size portion of lightly battered cod, haddock or plaice, and chips made from the right sort of potatoes, so they’re nice and crisp on the outside and lovely and fluffy when you bite into them. If you don’t want fish and chips, there’s plenty else to choose from – pies and pasties, burgers, faggots, chicken nuggets, sausages and even curries. Choose your extras – mushy peas, baked beans, pickled egg, pickled onion, whatever you want. You can eat in or go and sit on the seafront and enjoy your nosh. Ah, proper job, the best of British.
