The Bower Inn, East Bower, Somerset
At the edge of the Somerset Levels you'll find this dog friendly 18th century red brick inn. In the winter, when it's chilly, they light the wood-burner and it's nice to sit beside it with a drink; in the summer have a pint of local brew in the pretty garden. The food is pub grub style, but its good and most of it is homemade using local ingredients. On the lunchtime menu are sandwiches made with bread from the local bakers, homemade smoked haddock and cheddar fishcakes, and their own Bower beef burger. If you go there for Sunday roast, make sure you pre-book as it gets busy - they even do a homemade nut roast for vegetarians.
Opening times: Evening Mon-Sat 6 pm-11 pm, Sun 6.30 pm-10.30 pm. Lunchtimes Tues - Sat 12-3 pm, Sunday 12-4 pm.
