The Cricket Inn, Beesands, Kingsbridge, Devon

The award-winning Cricket Inn stands on the seafront in the quiet village of Beesands near Kingsbridge in South Devon. Round these parts it has a reputation as one of the best foodie pubs to be found, so if you have a leaning towards what’s great and good in the gourmet world, you need to go eat here.

Sustainability is right at the forefront at the Cricket Inn ethos; they work closely with local suppliers, so meat is raised and grazed on farms nearby, fish and shellfish are caught in the very local waters and landed on the vicinity’s beaches.

Pick up the A La Carte menu and take your pick; start with Monkfish scampi, Crispy beef Thai salad or Mushroom parfait, move on to mains of 10oz Sirloin with confit beef tomato, braised mushroom, peppercorn or blue cheese sauce & a choice of sides, Roasted butternut squash with sundried tomato, onion marmalade, spinach, feta, pine nuts and romesco, or their signature Seafood pancake (cod, prawns & queen scallops cooked in a cream sauce, white crab & Parmesan cheese). Round it off with Apple, rhubarb & ginger crumble, Cappuccino creme brulee or Salcombe Dairy vanilla ice cream. That should leave you feeling very satisfied, and very happy.

There’s a children’s menu, a gluten free menu and at weekends, a breakfast menu. Imagine that – get up early on a Sunday, go for a delicious Full English (veggie option too!), then walk it off with a stroll along the beach or on the South West Coast Path. Otherwise, have a lie-in and come for Sunday roast.

Another thing. The Cricket Inn has a rather special claim to fame: back in the 1950s this is where a couple of teenagers called Mick Jagger and Keith Richards first performed live when they were down this way on holiday with Keith’s parents.
