The Five Bells, Clyst Hydon, Cullompton, Devon

The Five Bells at Clyst Hidon is one of those village pubs that’s right at the heart of the community but also extends a warm welcome to visitors. So, if you’re out and about exploring when you’re on your group holidays in Devon, bear this in mind for a drink or eats. It’s only a few miles up the road from Wildwood Devon, so maybe factor it in with a family day out.

The Five Bells is run by the community, people who love living in this little corner of Devon and want to show it off to anyone who swings by. They put on plenty of events, like quiz nights, games nights, live music and comedy, and although they don’t run a full kitchen, they do have regular food vans, run by local folk, serving up tasty food for all. Take a peek at their calendar and you’ll see kitchen takeovers for pie and mash nights, burgers cooked over smoking coals, seafood grills, pasta nights, pizza nights, and Sunday roasts.

It’s a pretty place too – an old Devon longhouse with whitewashed walls and a thatched roof, and inside there are beams-a-plenty and a wood-burner for the colder days. The gardens front and back are lovely in the summer; a lavender lined path leads to the door and there are tables to sit at in the sunshine.
