The George at Woolley, Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire

Even though it’s less than a mile from the middle of Bradford-on-Avon, The George at Woolley has the feels of a country pub, with a toasty log fire in the winter, and a secluded garden for the summer, assuming that there will be sunshine. Inside is lovely, all wooden floors, rugs, leather Chesterfields and mismatched chairs and tables, and the odd touch of froufrou.

The menu showcases what’s fresh, local and seasonal in these parts, so if you’re staying nearby on your large group holiday in the UK and you decide to have a pootle round Bradford-on-Avon, The George at Woolley should be on your radar for lunch or dindins, or even brekkie if you’re up and about early enough. You’ll be tempted by the likes of their own handmade beef burger with fries and pickles, Tuscan fish stew, beef and oyster pie, and Jerusalem artichoke and wild shiitake mushroom hot pot. If it’s Sunday fill your bellies with a traditional roast, then go walk it off with a stroll along the towpath of the Kennet & Avon canal.
