The George Hotel, Axminster, Devon
The George Hotel in Axminster is a big old coaching inn that stands pretty much in the middle of town so you can't miss it. It's popular with locals and visitors alike, and the fact that it's open all day 7 days a week is worth knowing if you're out and about pootling around in East Devon and your tummy starts telling you it needs sustenance. And actually, it's not bad here, not bad at all. They do sharing boards, light bites and all the pub classics like Mac 'n; Cheese, Hand Crimped Pies, Beer Battered Fish with chips and peas, their own George Burger, and sorely tempting things for veggies like Courgette & Feta Fritters. What's more, they get their ingredients as local as they possibly can - fish from the nearby Jurassic Coast, salad leaves from Trill Farm just a few miles away. The decor is eclectic, blending in very well with the original features and character of the building, the ambience is relaxed, and the service is friendly.
