The Hare & Hounds, Sidbury, Sidmouth, Devon
The Hare & Hounds near Sidmouth in East Devon is popular with folk from miles around, the reason being it’s a proper country free house with good food and local ales, plenty of parking, and a big garden with incredible views and a play area for the kids. Dogs are allowed too, though not in all parts of the pub, but that makes life easier if you’ve got your pooch in tow and don’t want to leave him in the car.
What the Hare & Hounds is renowned for is the carvery it serves – all the meat and veg comes from very close by and they do a nut roast for vegetarians. They run a menu as well, with considerable choice – sandwiches, wraps, jacket potatoes, steaks and burger, salads and all the favourites like lasagne, beef in red wine and a very tasty turkey curry. It’s all homemade of course and they have a menu for children or for smaller appetites. A good one for families.
