The High Pavement, Frome, Somerset
The High Pavement is the place to go for tapas in Frome; the food is Moorish – and definitely moreish, inspired by the flavours of Spain, North Africa and the Middle East. Wander up over the cobbled hill in St Catherine’s quarter, past the eclectic shops selling vintage and antiques, go in and find your table or if it’s one of those warm summer nights, sit outside in the terraced garden. The ambience is laid back yet vibrant and it feels good to be a part of it.
Choose from cold plates like Muhummra, Turkish Pepper Paste, Pomegranate Molasses and Toasted Walnut, Crema de Jamon Iberico & Toast, and White Bean Hummus with Confit Garlic Alioli, Dukka & Herbs. Or take your pick of hot plates - Deep Fried Goats Cheese with Date Syrup, Almonds & Mint, Mushroom & Manchego Croquettas or Fried Potatoes with Smoked Alioli.
There’s also tapas from the charcoal grill to tempt you and oh, it sounds divine; Hot Grilled Chorizo, Cornish Squid with Zhoug, Venison with Pedro Ximenez, Red Cabbage, Pine Nut, Chive & Manchego. Finish with Pistachio, Honey & Orange Blossom Ice Cream, Sherry Trifle or a Cheese Plate, then go and find some live music or comedy in one of the bars in town or down at The Cheese and Grain.
