The Old Rectory - Accommodation
Drive up the sweeping drive to The Old Rectory and before you go in, pause for a moment and look around you; the views of the Quantock Hills and the Somerset Coast are incredible – you can see for miles. Step in through the porch to a wide hallway and off to the left is the dining room, light and airy with period features and a big window overlooking the front garden; a long polished table sets the scene for celebrations feasts, perfect for those significant birthdays and anniversaries. To the right is the kitchen, also reached from the hall, and so bright and spacious, with plenty of room for socialising and cooking at the same time. It's very well equipped so it will be easy for a professional catering team to come in and cook (see Extras) for a special occasion.
Beyond the kitchen is an inner hall; off to the right is a utility room and the back door; to the left is the play room, also accessed from the dining room. Go right in the hall and there’s a lovely sitting room with a wood-burner, red leather Chesterfields, and a big TV. An inner hall leads to a large drawing room, a very elegant space with plenty of sumptuous seating, a beautiful feature fireplace and another wood-burning stove; imagine coming back after an autumn walk in the hills or on a rugged windswept beach, returning to the fireside for hot chocolate and toasted tea cakes…
Off the inner hall a lobby leads to the main staircase, a cloakroom and the games room, which can also be accessed from the drawing room. Many happy hours will be spent in here – a pool table doubles up for ping-pong so it’s a good spot to get together for games before dinner.
On the first floor off a long landing are 4 of the bedroom suites, all named after the rectors and their wives who have lived here over the years; a charming touch of house history. The Vernon Suite has two large bedrooms and shares an ample bathroom, so is ideal for families; parents in John Vernon, two children in Augusta Vernon, and room for a cot or two. The Billington and Hellier Suites both sleep 2 and have their own ensuite bathrooms; the bath in the Hellier Suite is right in front of the window so you can take in the wonderful views while you have a relaxing soak. The Stannard Suite overlooks the pretty courtyard at the back of the house and has an ensuite bathroom. All of the bathrooms at The Old Rectory are good sizes and have a bath and a separate shower.
On the second floor are The Elrington and The Alford Suites, both with 2 bedrooms and shared bathrooms, so again, these are good rooms for families. The bedrooms are all a blend of country house charm and modern fixtures and are finished in restful neutral tones – all conducive to a good night’s sleep.
Outside are large, part-walled grounds with mature trees and pretty flowerbeds; sit in the front gardens and enjoy the views of the sea, or potter about and play croquet on the lawns. In the back garden there's plenty of space for the young 'uns to charge about and let off steam, and there’s a lovely play fort for them. At the back of the house there's a quiet courtyard with garden furniture, a barbecue, and a nice big hot tub; lie back and look up; blue skies by day, stars coruscating at night, absolute bliss. Time to unwind, time to dream. Book a stay today!
