The Old Rectory - Accommodation

Drive slowly up the sweeping drive to The Old Rectory and before you go in, pause for a moment and look around, taking in the spectacular views of the Quantock Hills and the Somerset Coast. Then in you go, through the porch to a wide hallway; on the left is the dining room, an elegant setting for any celebration feast. Straight ahead is the playroom, on the right is the spacious and well-equipped kitchen. At the back of the house the rear hall leads to a utility room and a door to the courtyard.

Off to the right of the main hallway there’s a living room with a wood-burner, red leather Chesterfields, and a big TV. An inner hall leads to the drawing room, with sofas to sit comfy, and another wood-burning stove. Picture yourselves coming back rosy cheeked after an autumn walk in the hills, returning to the fireside for hot chocolate and toasted tea cakes, all buttery and scrumptious…

Off the inner hall a door leads to the stairs, a cloakroom and the games room (also accessed from the drawing room) where a pool table doubles up for ping-pong. Every room is full of charm, with period features like window shutters, decorative ceiling roses, picture rails and dado rails. It’s beautifully furnished, so in keeping with the age and style of the house and homely at the same time. It’s the perfect setting for Murder Mystery weekends – think Cluedo and Agatha Christie.

The bedroom suites are all named after the rectors and their wives who have lived here over the years; a charming touch of house history. There are 4 on the first floor; The Vernon Suite has two large bedrooms and shares an ample bathroom, so is ideal for families; parents in John Vernon, two children in Augusta Vernon, and room for a cot or two. The Billington and Hellier Suites both sleep 2 and have their own ensuite bathrooms; the bath in the Hellier Suite is right in front of the window so you can take in the wonderful views while you have a relaxing soak. The Stannard Suite overlooks the courtyard at the back of the house and has an ensuite bathroom. All bathrooms have a bath and a separate shower.

On the second floor are The Elrington and The Alford Suites, both with 2 bedrooms and shared bathrooms, so again, these are good rooms for families. The bedrooms are all a blend of country house charm and modern fixtures and are finished in restful neutral tones making for a good night’s sleep.

Outside, large, part-walled grounds surround the house, with mature trees and pretty flowerbeds; enjoy the views of the sea, have picnics and play croquet on the lawns. Children and dogs can run free, and there’s a lovely play fort. The courtyard has outdoor furniture, a barbecue, and a big hot tub; lie back and look up; clouds drifting along by day, stars coruscating at night. Time to unwind, time to dream.

Across the courtyard a large modern studio provides a fantastic space for yoga and wellness sessions or conferences and meetings, equipped with a large screen and connectivity; on our Extras list you’ll find professionals to lead workshops as well as private caterers, florists, pamperers and activity organisers.

The Old Rectory is for all ages and all types of large group stays - family holidays and celebrations, walking breaks, refined hen weekends, wellness retreats and corporate away days. Enjoy every minute of your time here, leave with the most amazing memories. Book today!
