The Railway Inn, Meare, Somerset
What you’d call a good old fashioned boozer, not one for the foodies by any means, though there are usually some very good cheese rolls and homemade scotch eggs behind the bar. Everyone is made to feel welcome and locals, birdwatchers and walkers drink happily side by side and put the world to rights over a pint of Wilkins cider, which is made just down the road. It’s right out in the sticks, close to Ham Wall nature reserve, and the setting is nice which is why the beer garden gets busy in the summer and at the Sunday sessions in the warmer months, when they have live music and a barbecue
