The River Yarty, East Devon
The River Yarty runs a 16 mile course, rising in the Blackdown Hills at Staple Plain and flowing partly along the Somerset and Devon border until it joins the River Axe near Axminster. It’s a pretty river that babbles on through peaceful countryside beneath ancient bridges and busy roads. Parts of it are popular with anglers fishing for brown trout and sea trout, though most stretches are now privately owned.
