The Riverside Inn, Saltford, Bristol, Somerset
The Riverside Inn is a busy family run pub with an enviable location right on the banks of the River Avon, so it’s no surprise that it’s a popular choice for locals and for the city dwellers who flock to Saltford at weekends when the sun is high in the sky and all feels good in life.
Striking that fine balance between running a tight ship, providing excellent service and a relaxed ambience isn’t always easy, but they’ve pulled it off very well here and to boot, the food is very good, keeping step with the seasons, and making the most of the abundance of fresh local produce to be found in these parts. If you go on a Sunday, the carvery is a must, but they also have an impressive daily changing menu of pub classics and some more unusual dishes. Among them are Caribbean beef stew, Steak Wadworth 6X ale & mushroom pie, Angus Aberdeen beef burger, and Curried mutton. There’s also a good choice of 12” gourmet pizzas, ciabattas and kid’s food – if you can drag them away from the play area. What you must do if the weather is anywhere near half decent, is sit out on the deck and enjoy the views of the river and the fields beyond.
