The Stepping Stones, Westhumble, Dorking, Surrey
The Stepping Stones is essentially the village pub in Westhumble but it's also frequently used as a watering hole by people who are out exploring the Surrey Hills AONB, mainly because it's handy, being right at the foot of Box Hill. The atmosphere is comfortable and online reviews are good with several mentions of the friendly and helpful staff. Food is a bit of everything - pub favourites, British dishes with world flavours, platters, steaks, salads, paninis, sandwiches and even afternoon tea. They have a children's menu too, and more choice than you usually get for vegetarians, so as long as you're not expecting fine dining you should find something that takes your fancy.
It's quite a lively place, The Stepping Stones, with regular events like quiz nights, a monthly Jazz Jam, vintage car and motorbike meet ups, and live music. Dogs are welcome in the bar.
