The Swan, Wedmore, Somerset
This old coaching inn dates back to the early 1700s when it first opened as a Beer House; it’s seen many changes since then and is now a popular village pub with a very relaxing ambience and understated tasteful décor. There’s a peaceful garden at the back, tables out the front, and inside a wood-burner to sit by on colder days. They open at 9 in the morning with breakfast served from 11, and they stay open serving snacks and drinks all day until late. There’s a childrens menu, or they can have smaller portions from the daily changing menu which is heavy on local produce, in-house cakes and bread, and home-cured hams and bacon. On the evening menu at the time of writing are Venison & Pork Faggot with Soft Polenta & Veg, Roast Belly of Gloucester Old Spot, and Celeriac & Blue Vinney Gratin with a Poached Duck Egg, Spiced Walnuts, Carrots and Chives. There’s a good selection of dry aged steaks and salads and an impressive choice of ales. Wedmore is a very nice village with a few excellent shops so have a stroll around whilst you're here.
