The Three Swans, Frome, Somerset
What The Three Swans lacks in size it certainly makes up for in character – this has to be one of the kookiest pubs in town. Like the general vibe in Frome, it’s lively, it’s laid back and it’s fun; the décor is eclectically gorgeous with marble topped tables, rush seated chairs, sumptuous velvets, a boudoir throne and old gilt framed paintings. When it’s cold there are wood-burners lit in the bar and the lounge to add to the cosiness; it could be lashing down with rain outside but you’d be happy here, hunkering down with good company and a few drinks.
At the back of the pub there’s a part covered courtyard which makes a nice place to sit when the sun is beaming down; no kidding, you’ll be sharing it with caged skeletons and enormous Egyptian statues. Upstairs there’s a function room you can book for private lunches or dinners, all lush red velvets and old wooden tables, a wonderfully atmospheric setting.
Food is classic pub fare – sandwiches, Chilli nachos, burgers, fish and chips, truffled mac ‘n’ cheese, and on Sundays it’s traditional roast with all the trimmings. Small tweaks mean most things can be enjoyed by vegetarians, vegans and those on a gluten free diet.
