The Weary Traveller, Cullompton, Devon
The Weary Traveller in Cullompton was taken over by new management in February 2022, given a good lick of paint and a general tidy up. Reviews are mostly good – the pub certainly seems to have a seal of approval from the locals, but visitors are made to feel just as welcome.
What you get here is a traditional English pub; a very relaxed atmosphere with no unnecessary fussiness and no frills, it’s down to earth and honest. They host open mic nights, quiz nights, karaoke, live sport and live entertainment; there’s a pool table and out the back, a large beer garden with a play area. In the summer months they have live music and hog roasts out there.
The food is pub classics and British favourites with a few world influences, made using seasonal ingredients – burgers from nearby Powderham Farm, chilli beef burrito, Katsu salmon curry, fish and chips, cottage pie, lasagne and pan-fried lambs liver. Much of it is homemade and vegetarians are nicely catered for with the likes of Feta, spring onion and sweetcorn savoury pancakes. Sundays is carvery day, with a choice of local meats and veg.
The Weary Traveller is just minutes from the M5 so maybe give it a try if you’ve been out for the day to Diggerland Devon or Killerton when you're on your group holidays in Devon.
