The White Hart, Cross, Axbridge, Somerset
The White Hart is exactly what you’d expect from a traditional country pub – it’s totally unpretentious, with no fuss and no frills because that’s not necessary as long as there’s a warm welcome, friendly service and hearty homemade food. Inside has plenty of character via the exposed stone walls, low ceilings and dark beams, outside there’s a large beer garden with a Bottle Bar.
A former coaching inn, The White Hart stands in a tiny hamlet on the edge of the Mendip Hills National Landscape, just a few miles from Axbridge. The hills provide excellent walking and cycling territory, so this is a good stop off for well-earned refreshments.
The menu is pub grub, kept short and simple so you know it’s all made right here in the kitchen. Choose from home cooked soups, chunky sandwiches, Ploughman’s, Baked potatoes, then likes of Cauliflower cheese, Slow cooked beef stew, Chilli con carne, and a selection of homemade puds.
Family friendly and dog friendly. Opening times are as below, but if it’s quiet they might close earlier.
