The White Hart, Wiveliscombe, Somerset
Right in the Square of the Somerset market town of Wiveliscombe is the White Hart, a 350 year old coaching inn that’s recently earned itself 4 AA stars. It’s down to earth and traditional; beer garden at the back (with wonderful country views), wood-burning stove inside. The lunch menu has lighter bites – sandwiches, baguettes, Ploughmans, and omelettes, and the usual pub classics, including some very tempting burgers – the Chorizo Chicken Breast Burger, the Veggie Oozy Blue Burger, and if you dare, the ‘Hart Burn’ Burger, for those who like a lot of chillies.
Evening dining is entirely different, with Crispy Skinned Seabass, Pan Roasted Barbary Duck, and Slow Braised Pork Belly on the menu. Round it all off with local ice cream, sticky toffee pudding, Somerset Apple sponge, or a fine local cheeseboard.
