The Windmill Inn, West Quantoxhead, Somerset
Modern on the outside, traditional on the inside, and it works because the Windmill Inn is a popular spot for those who live in the area and those who are visiting. It’s right at the foot of the Quantock Hills so it’s worth bearing in mind if you’re out and about exploring, but it’s equally good for families, with a nice beer garden and a play area for the kids, plus it’s dog friendly.
Eat in the bar or in the West Quantoxhead Restaurant; at lunchtimes there’s a choice of well filled baguettes, Ploughmans and Jacket Potatoes, or on the Snack and Lighter Meals Menu you’ll find things like an all day breakfast, handmade beef burger or veggie burger, creamy pesto chicken and sundried tomato tagliatelle, or local ham egg and chips. There’s also a jolly good choice of salads – ham & pineapple, chicken Caesar with anchovies, smoked salmon, and warm goat's cheese, caramelised pear and walnut.
Even the fussiest eaters should find something they’ll like on the Mains menu – lasagne, lambs liver with bacon and mash, lamb rump, slow roasted leg of duck, homemade cottage pie; plenty to keep you going. If you’re planning to go on a Sunday you should definitely book as the carvery is very popular.
