Walton Heath Golf Club, Walton-on-the-Hill, Tadworth, Surrey
Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey is very well known and very highly regarded in the golfing world, mostly for the quality of its two challenging heathland courses (Jack Nicklaus described it as ‘wonderfully pure’), both of which are up there in the top 50 courses ranked in the UK and Ireland.
The club was founded in 1903 and the first captain was none other than the Prince of Wales; over the years Walton Heath has staged the European Open several times, the Ryder Cup, the British Ladies Amateur and the Senior Open – and if that’s not enough to impress you, it was a favourite of Winston Churchill too.
So, get yourselves up there, out on that beautiful heath where conditions aren’t always predictable and the skies are immense. The Old Course is Par 72 7,406 yards, the New Course 7,199 yards, both 18 hole. Enjoy a snifter or a bite to eat in the clubhouse after your game; if the sun has got his hat on, sit out on the terrace and enjoy the views.
