Westbury, Wiltshire
Westbury in Wiltshire is well known for the huge white horse carved on the slopes of Salisbury Plain just outside the town, said to date back to when Alfred the Great defeated the Danes nearby, although there is no firm evidence to suggest this. It’s one of those quiet market towns where life ticks along; there are a few local shops and a supermarket, and if you’re in the mood for browsing, a charming 14th century church and historic marketplace. If you fancied something to eat here you could try The Horse and Groom or Zia Pizza.
