Whimbrels Barton - Accommodation
Back in the day Whimbrels Barton formed the stables and haybarns on a busy working farm; spin forward to today and following a very sympathetic transformation, it’s now a very impressive holiday house that sleeps 16 guests in 8 bedrooms. You’ll feel the pace slow down as you pootle through the Somerset lanes to the tiny hamlet where this luxury holiday house stands. Whimbrels Barton has been carefully designed for the kind of large group holidays where you can spend as much time together as you wish, but you have your own space when you need it. So it works really well for groups of young families or for multi-generational groups with people who prefer an earlier bedtime.
The star attraction at Whimbrels Barton is the enormous open plan living/entertaining space; step inside and the wow factor kicks in straightaway – centuries old brickwork, chunky rafters soaring to the ceiling, light pouring in through full height windows that overlook the garden, and interiors like something from the pages of a magazine. The eclectic mix of contemporary, rustic and raw industrial works so well.
To one end there’s a fully equipped kitchen with an island to sit at, in the middle are big fat sofas to lounge on, and at the other end of this vast room, a big handcrafted dining table sets the scene for happy celebration feasts with the people you love most in the world. By day, the table converts for table tennis – fun for the grown-ups as well as the kids. This is such a fantastic room for peaceful family gatherings any time of year; tuck into a celebration feast, raise a toast to that special birthday, start each day with a cheerful breakfast, enjoy a big fat Sunday roast. Be happy, make memories to last a lifetime! Off the kitchen a door leads through to a utility room with a washing machine and an adjoining loo.
The bedrooms are arranged over 3 adjoining barns, meticulously renovated, super stylish, homely and welcoming. Bedrooms 1 and 2 are in Snipes Rest, on the ground floor and are both zip and links that can be arranged as super kings or twins. There’s also a shower room, and upstairs, an open plan kitchen and living room with a wood-burner.
Next door in Curlews Halt are Bedrooms 3 and 4, both on the ground floor with zip and link beds and sharing a shower room. Stairs take you up to the open plan kitchen and living room where there’s a wood-burner for the chillier times of year.
Bedrooms 5 and 6 are on the ground floor just around the corner in Bean Goose Barn. There’s also a shower room and a refreshment area with air hockey, and upstairs, Bedrooms 7 and 8, a shared bathroom and a living room with a wood-burner. Bedrooms 5-7 have zip and link beds, Bedroom 8 has a king size bed.
Just outside of Bean Goose Barn is the main garden where there’s a wood fired hot tub, outdoor furniture and two barbecues. There’s a short pathway to the living/entertaining room and a private courtyard which continues round to the small gardens outside of Curlews Halt and Snipes Rest. These both have kooky outdoor baths; just across the path is a further area of lawned garden with a trampoline.
