Whispering Thatch - Accommodation
Push open the big front door at Whispering Thatch and in you go, to a wide flag-stoned hallway. Go left to the kitchen, passing the snug on your way; it’s the perfect place to take 5 snuggled on the settee. The kitchen and adjoining dining room allow for happy sociable times with plenty of room for you all to gather together – perfect if you’re here to celebrate a special anniversary or birthday. Hire tried and tested caterers from our Extras list to come and cook for you; sit around the table, raise a toast with the backdrop of the beautiful Otter Valley.
To the right of the hall is the drawing room where light pours in through the big windows, so it’s a lovely room for afternoon tea or early evening drinks. There are big fat sofas and chairs for you to sit comfy and to one end there's a huge inglenook fireplace with a wood-burner, perfect for warming your toes in the winter. Cosy up to play games or for a family movie night – the kind of thing that holidays are made of.
Upstairs off a long landing are Bedrooms 1-5; at one end of the house, Bedroom 1 is a light filled room with zip and link beds (super king or twin), and an ensuite shower room; Bedroom 2 also has zip and link beds and right next to it there’s a family bathroom that has a P bath with a handheld shower. Next is Bedroom 3, another one with zip and link beds, and right at the end of the landing is Bedroom 4, with a king size bed and an ensuite WC; Bedrooms 1-4 have a wonderful outlook over the front garden so you can start the day with a cup of tea in bed, watching squirrels scampering about on the lawn.
Across the landing is Bedroom 5 - a suite comprised of two interlinking rooms and a shared shower room. This is perfect for families - a double bed for parents and two singles for the children. The bedrooms at Whispering Thatch all have original built-in cupboards to put your clothes in; the whole house is full of quirky old charm and character.
Back downstairs next to the kitchen is the integral annexe, ideal for elderly parents or grandparents, or for anyone who likes their own space. It has a kitchen, a small living room and a bedroom (Bedroom 6), with zip and link beds and an ensuite wet room. French doors open onto a patio and the garden - a lovely spot in the summer for morning coffee or a sneaky nightcap.
The large gardens are mostly to the front of the house where there’s a private hot tub and a play area for the younger ones; have a soak beneath a summer sky the colour of forget-me-nots or under the stars at night There's plenty of room for children to run about and let off steam, and you can all head down to the little River Luv in the wider grounds of the farm for a paddle. You'll also have use of a games room with a pool table, table football and table tennis*.
