Withymans - Accommodation
Your luxury large group holiday begins when you turn off the lane and up the drive to Withymans; this lovely old farmhouse was built in Georgian times and still has a lot of original features - the marble fireplaces in the reception rooms, the huge sash windows with wooden shutters, high ceilings, picture rails and decorative plasterwork. It all blends to perfection with the eclectic interiors, it’s a wonderful backdrop to your large group holiday.
Step inside the big front door to a wide hallway that runs from back to front; to the right is the movie room with an enormous TV and plenty of comfy seating to snuggle up on for family film nights. Notice the hunting frieze that runs around the whole room, dating from the 1920s.
Next door is the Drawing Room, very in keeping with a huge gilt mirror, florals and chintzes. Just imagine tucking into toasted teacakes in here by the fire after a blustery walk around the fields… Left of the hall is the downstairs WC, and a little further along contemporary glass doors open to the kitchen/dining room.
This is a really sociable space where you can all gather together; to one side is the kitchen with everything you need to rustle up a fabulous feast for all. The original bread oven is still here, and the huge fireplace now houses the cooker. The other side there's a long rustic dining table, a wood-burner, and French doors that open onto the patio at the front of the house.
To the back of the kitchen there's a lobby with a special ‘canine cubby’ for dogs to sleep; a door opens to the back courtyard, and another leads through to the utility room where you'll find laundry facilities, an extra fridge/freezer, and a loo. Also off the lobby is Bedroom 6, access friendly with a king size bed and a large, level ensuite wet room.
Straight ahead in the hall, a wide staircase leads to a half landing that overlooks the back courtyard. Up a few more steps is Bedroom 5, a twin room that shares a Jack & Jill shower room with Bedroom 4. On the main landing, Bedrooms 1 and 2 are off to the left; Bedroom 1 has a very contemporary feel, with a super king bed and an ensuite shower room. Bedroom 2 has zip and link beds (super king or twin), and in front of one of the windows, a free-standing bath.
Bedroom 3 has a king size bed and uses the family bathroom; Bedroom 4 has zip and link beds and use of the Jack & Jill shower room, shared with Bedroom 5. Bedrooms 1 and 4 both have room for 1 extra guest bed (small charge each).
Downstairs by the back door, stone steps lead down to the games room - back in the day this was the cellar and its original character has been retained with the red brick pillars and vaulted ceiling. There's a gaming zone with a TV that you can plug your own devices into, table football and air hockey. A door opens to steps up to the back courtyard, a good spot for morning coffee.
At the front of the house there’s a large secure garden; on the patio there’s outdoor furniture and a barbecue, and just around the corner, the private hot tub. The kids will love bouncing about on the trampoline, and when evening comes you can all gather round the firepit to toast marshmallows and swap stories. What's great is that the garden gets the sun from dawn till dusk, so you can spend unhurried days in the fresh air; in the evening enjoy a sundowner and watch the sun sink slowly over the horizon before you head upstairs to Blanket Land.
