Ye Olde Ferrie Inn, Symonds Yat West, Herefordshire

A very friendly pub in the most wonderful setting on the banks of the River Wye, with breathtaking views out over the valley. The building dates back to the 15th century and is packed with centuries old features – thick stone walls, rustic timbers and big old fireplaces. No doubt about it, it’s the perfect place to round off a stroll along the river, an amble through the forest, or a few hours larking about on the water; in the summer it’s nice to sit outside on the terrace, in the winter it’s good to sit by the roaring log fire with a mug of the amazing hot chocolate they do here. They’re big on local ales and cider, and locally sourced ingredients; the food is good and honest with pub classics and modern British Fare. On the mains menu are things like Crispy Belly Pork, Savoy Cabbage, Creamed Potato and Cider Sauce, Pan-fried salmon Fillet, Bok Choi, Tenderstem Broccoli, Noodles and Miso Broth, and a good choice of Char-Grilled Burgers and steaks. It gets busy in the summer because there’s plenty you can do here to pass the day; hire a rowing boat or Canadian canoe with ROWYOFI and explore the waters at your leisure; try paddle boarding with SUPYOFI. All the stuff that holidays are made of.
