Blandford Forum, Dorset
Blandford Forum on the banks of the River Stour in Dorset holds the accolade of being the most complete small Georgian town in Britain, so you can imagine how attractive it is – yep, all that gorgeous architecture, most of which was designed by a pair of noted architects, the Bastard Brothers, after a fire swept through the town in the early 18th century. There’s a museum, lots of independent shops and boutiques, and some excellent places to eat. Hall & Woodhouse have a brewery and shop you can visit here, there’s a Fashion Museum, and every year it all gets very exciting on the August Bank Holiday weekend with the Great Dorset Steam Fair held nearby, with over 2,000 exhibits including an old fashioned steam funfair. If you fancy lunch try The Crown Hotel or Nelson’s Cheese & Ale House.
If you're out and about exploring this part of Dorset on your large group holidays in the UK, stop off at Blandford Forum after a trip to nearby Kingston Lacy (NT).
