Bridport, Dorset

If you’re staying anywhere near West Dorset on your large group holiday in the UK, you should go and have a browse around Bridport if you fancy a day out. This is such an upbeat town, especially on market day when the streets are lined with eclectic stalls selling just about everything from organic fruit and veg and pet food to antiques and vintage clothing. Quite often, there’s live entertainment in Ducky Boo Square by the town clock, and that pulls quite a crowd.

The shops are a mix of a few well-known names and long-established family businesses, – like Snooks, the hat shop which gets really busy in the run up to the annual Hat Festival. There’s usually something on at the Arts Centre or the Electric Palace and if you go down to the Vintage Quarter you’ll find a very lively scene with some very original shops and the quirky Red Brick Café. Where’s good for eats? Bella’s does delicious takeouts like freshly baked baguettes, sandwiches, pastries and cakes, Dorshi is brilliant for Asian street food, and on the outskirts of town is The Pymore Inn where in the summer, you can sit outside in the walled garden and tuck into an oven fresh handmade pizza.

Just a mile down the road is West Bay so tie in your trip with a stroll around the harbour and some time on the beach.
