Broomfield, Somerset

Broomfield is a tiny village on the edge of the Quantock Hills in Somerset, just 5 miles from the county town of Taunton. If you happen to visit for any reason or to pass through when you’re out walking in the hills, you’ll notice that the village has a certain tranquil and timeless air.

You might be tempted to have an amble round, looking at the quaint cottages, the church and the village green. Most people come to Broomfield because they’re visiting Fyne Court, once the grounds of a big country house, which sadly, burnt down in 1894, now in the very capable hands of the National Trust. Explore the ruins and the cobbled courtyard where traces of the past and the grandeur still linger; explore the walled garden and the arboretum, stroll out to the boathouse. There’s also a secondhand bookshop and a very nice tea room where they serve delectable homemade cake.
