Chantry Tea Gardens, Kilve, Somerset

If you visit the Somerset Coast when you're on your large group holiday in Somerset, go for a blowy walk along the cliffs from East Quantoxhead, or while away an hour or so rockpooling and fossil hunting on Kilve beach. Then head back up the lane to Chantry Tea Gardens because it's a lovely way to round off your day out. This is such a lovely little place and the setting, with the ruins of a 14th century chantry as a backdrop, is idyllic. All summer long the gardens spill and froth with cottage garden flowers, roses clamber up the walls, birds chirrup as they go about their business. Dogs are welcome in the garden, service is friendly and the food, well - delicious home made cakes, tasty quiches, and big fat scones served with a generous dollop of jam and clotted cream. Wash it down with a pot of tea or a glass of wild English elderflower cordial.
