Cockercombe Castle, the Quantock Hills, Somerset
An Iron Age earthwork on the Quantock Hills, near the village of Aisholt; it’s also known as Plainsfield Camp and there’s debate over whether it was actually used as a hill fort or merely an animal enclosure. Even so, it’s a lovely spot for a walk, with wonderful countryside and far reaching views. Park at the Forest Office car park at Plainsfield and follow the track up and across the fields. It’s fairly steep so why not reward yourself with a pint or lunch at The Lamb at Spaxton afterwards?
