Culmstock, Devon
There are some undeniably pretty villages in the Blackdown Hills and this is one of them, in the Devon part of the hills in the beautiful Culm Valley. In fact, the River Culm runs right through the village beneath an old stone bridge only wide enough for single traffic, and the narrow streets are lined with centuries old cottages. If you’re staying nearby you can cycle or walk to Culmstock, it’s not far at all; go to the Strand Stores where you can stock up on provisions and sit out in the sunshine with a cup of coffee and a newspaper. Otherwise, walk the dog to the top of Culmstock Beacon and then go to the Culm Valley Inn for a pint.
