Dolcipani, Devizes, Wiltshire
Freshly baked organic breads, traditional pizzas, delicious cakes, scrummy ice cream – all done the authentic Italian way at Dolcipani in Devizes. Who would have thought it, eh? Proper job Italian fare in the middle of Wiltshire? This little bakery/restaurant is where the famous Devizes Cheesecake is made – by Gianni, who hails from Sicily and runs the show, as well as teaching baking at local colleges. The Devizes Cheesecake was a sweet treat that Jane Austen was particularly taken with when she visited the town in 1799; try it and you’ll find out why. Buy something to take away with you or find a seat, stay a while and enjoy a pizza, stone baked to order using Gianni’s own recipes. It’s a very friendly place – customers are greeted and fed with much gusto – the Italian way. Get yourselves along there.
