Driftwood Café, Blue Anchor, Somerset
Now here’s a nice day out when you’re on holiday in Somerset: go to Bishops Lydeard and board a steam train with the West Somerset Railway and sit back as you pootle through the countryside to alight at Blue Anchor. If it’s early enough have breakfast at this lovely 1930s beachside café; if it’s later on in the day go for lunch (the pork and apple burger is good!) or head straight for the beach, claim your place and pop up to the Driftwood Café whenever you fancy an ice cream or a drink. The service is friendly, you’ve got gorgeous sea views, and very good fish and chips if you want them – doesn’t the sea air always make you fancy fish and chips? Sit inside where it’s light and airy, out in the garden, or on the sheltered veranda. Take the whole family and the dog, all are welcome.
