Dunster, Somerset
Dunster is a lovely medieval village lying in the foothills of Exmoor National Park on the Somerset coast. The backdrop is one of steep wooded hillsides, with Dunster Castle (NT) standing high in the woods up above the streets. Right in the middle of the village is the octagonal 17th century Yarn Market, and there are lots of little shops to browse and cafes to stop by for a taste of the West Country. Follow the village trail to see the well preserved historic features - the Packhorse Bridge, the Dovecote, the Tithe Barn and the 19th century working watermill where you can buy flour that's milled on site. Take the young 'uns for a paddle in the stream or for a lark about in the playgrounds.
In December, Dunster by Candlelight won’t fail to get you in festive mood. When you're peckish try the Luttrell Arms or Cobblestones of Dunster.
