Hodders Combe, The Quantocks, Somerset

A climb up Hodder's Combe to the windswept bracken clad heaths will leave you feeling invigorated and give you breathtaking views out over the beautiful Somerset countryside to the Bristol Channel. At first the path gently rises up through broadleaved woodland with a babbling brook tripping down to one side; you'll see a waterfall and cross fords and it's all rather magical, a real dingly dell.
If you're the more adventurous sort you can take the mountain bike trail to the top of the moors; if you're into bird watching then take your binoculars as dippers, pied flycatchers, wood warblers and woodpeckers can be spotted here.
When you come back down go to the Plough Inn at Holford for a pint or if the time is right, for lunch.
