Lydney Harbour, Lydney, Gloucestershire

Not many towns this small can boast a historic harbour; also known as Lydney Docks, Lydney Harbour has played a big part in the heritage of the River Severn from Roman times; it was once the main commercial port in the area. Nowadays boats are docked here, and they come and go, and there’s a certain air of peacefulness here so it’s nice to just sit and contemplate, or to have a stroll around; there’s a short walk that’s mostly flat and takes you right round the harbour, and longer routes that take you out into the countryside, which is beautiful.
