Mickey’s Beach Bar & Restaurant in Exmouth brings you relaxed dining all day for coffee, lunch, afternoon tea with optional fizz, and dinner. When the sun is high in the sky order takeouts to eat on the sand just across the road, come back for summer night cocktails and sundowners as the sunset slips like honey over the Exe estuary. Ah, this is the life! It’s one big celebration of laid back sociable times and good food in beautiful coastal surroundings, which is exactly what renowned chef Michael Caines wanted it to be.
Downstairs there’s a bar with a menu of pizzas, salads, snacks and sides, upstairs there’s a light and airy restaurant where the coastal vibe is reflected in the beach-rustic décor and huge expanses of glass allow incredible views of the English Channel. When the sun has got his hat on sit out on the terrace where a retractable roof means you can soak up the rays and feel the lightest sea breeze in your hair. Tuck into the likes of pork chops, lamb rump and a choice of steaks from the grill, chargrilled stone bass, Indonesian seafood curry, Mickey’s beach burger and mushroom tagliatelle. Meat, veg and seafood are sourced as near to the door as possible and cooked simply over charcoal to bring out the best flavours; think Lyme Bay lobster thermidor, Lyme Bay Scallops and rib eye Red Ruby steak raised and grazed in the Devon fields. Come for roast on Sunday, take your time, savour every mouthful, just loving the food, the ambience and the company.
Matching the ethos of the eats are local and regional beers, Devon and English wines, and small batch gin, rum and vodka made by artisan producers in the good old West Country. Bring your dancing shoes on Friday and Saturday nights and get ready to slip into your groove from 5pm when the resident DJ takes to the decks.
