Palace House, Beaulieu, New Forest, Hampshire

Palace House was once the gatehouse to Beaulieu Abbey in Hampshire and it’s quite astonishing not only for its sheer beauty, but also because it’s been in the same family since 1538! Over the years it’s been extended and altered and is an outstanding example of a Victorian country house, and the setting is idyllic, overlooking a millpond. Little surprise that it’s one of only ten Treasure Houses of England and one of the most impressive stately homes open to the public.

So go there, go and see the Victorian Kitchen, Lord Montagu’s Library and all the other sumptuous rooms; have a guided tour with guides in Victorian dress, see the Soviet Russian art in the Art Russe Gallery. A fascinating day out.
