Porlock Weir, Somerset
It’s hard to believe this pretty little hamlet was once a busy seaport, it’s so quiet and peaceful these days, with a cluster of old stone buildings and charming 17th lime washed cottages sharing the backdrop of Exmoor’s steep wooded hills. Have a browse round the little shops - there's a boutique and a place selling hand blown Exmoor glass, and when you're done go to the Ship Inn for a leisurely lunch, or there’s a country house café that serves food and refreshments all day. The walk from Porlock Weir up through the woods to Culbone Church; is nothing short of enchanting; sitting on the harbour watching the comings and goings is a nice way to while away half an hour or so.
