Quantock Trekking, near Taunton, Somerset

UPDATE OCT 2023 - QUANTOCK TREKKING IS NOW PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Just imagine exploring the beautiful Quantock Hills on horseback… breathtaking views amidst a softly rolling landscape of fields, woodlands and across the bracken topped heaths. With Quantock Trekking you can enjoy guided tours with qualified instructors and there are 26 gorgeous horses to suit all abilities and weights, so don’t worry if it’s something you’ve never done before – it’ll be an amazing experience. The rides all start and finish at the stables in West Bagborough, at the foot of the Quantocks, and are usually 2 hours long. You can book a longer bespoke trek – perhaps an afternoon or a whole day, with a stop for refreshments at one of the quiet country pubs.

They usually go out in groups of 6 but offer packages for up to 12 riders, popular with hen parties, where the ride is rounded off with homemade afternoon tea and prosecco. Sounds fabulous, doesn’t it? You’ll need to come prepared – jeans and long sleeves are advised as the rides are around narrow lanes and bridleways where the hedges can be quite thick at certain times of the year. Welly boots rather than trainers are sensible too, with hats and body protectors provided.
