West Bagborough, Somerset

5 miles north of the county town of Taunton, West Bagborough is a small and peaceful village on the western slopes of the beautiful Quantock Hills. There are some good walks in the area, starting with a stroll through the village lanes, past the pretty houses and cottages, many made from the local red sandstone, and out to the parish church.

Amble up to the top of Lydeard Hill above the village where you’ll have spectacular views of Taunton Deane and the Blackdown Hills; on a clear day you can see right across to Exmoor. Stretch your legs and fill your lungs with fresh country air, then wander back down to The Rising Sun, a gorgeous 16th century pub that serves up a warm welcome and very good homemade food.

A couple of miles away is Bishops Lydeard where you can catch a steam train with the West Somerset Railway for a trip to the coast.
