Seend Locks, Seend Cleeve, Melksham, Wiltshire

The best way to see Seend Locks is to cycle or walk along the towpath of the Kennet & Avon Canal; there are five locks in total, once all a-bustle with trade boats loaded high with wool and ore or stones from the local quarries; today it’s a scene of tranquillity and a wonderful place to go and pass the time of day, to spot wildlife, to fish, to have a picnic beside the water. You might see people canoeing and even the occasional narrow boat passing through the locks; if the weather is good, you know, if it’s one of those lovely warm days in spring or summer, find a table outside The Barge Inn and enjoy a pint of Wadworth, the local brew, whilst you put the world to rights.
