Selworthy Beacon, Exmoor, Somerset
One of three peaks in Exmoor National Park, 1,013 feet high, close to the idyllic and picture postcard village of Selworthy within the Holnicote Estate; you can drive right up to the top and take in the glorious views that stretch to the south coast of Wales and across the Bristol Channel, or you can walk up through the woods to get there. Near the summit are a series of cairns that are believed to be the remains of Iron Age round barrows, and on the other side of the road is a memorial hut erected in 1878 by the Acland family who owned the estate. Worth a trip for the beautiful scenery and fresh air.
