Sorrel, Dorking, Surrey
Sorrel in Dorking is the result of one man’s 25 years of experience working alongside some of the biggest names in the restaurant world at some very prestigious places: Chez Nico at Ninety Park Lane, The Oak Room with Marco Pierre White, Pied a Terre and Aubergine. This is exquisite modern fine dining in a chic understated setting – lots of warm timbers, exposed floorboards, subtle lighting and white tablecloths; it’s perfect, but what’s really impressive is the accolades this place carries - 2 AA rosettes, 1 Michelin star, and for 2020 it’s in the Discovery best 50 restaurants in the world.
You want to know about the food though, don’t you? Well let’s look at a couple of things on the dinner menu; there’s Duck, carrot, ras el hanout, persimmon & hay infused juices, or for those who refrain from eating meat, BBQ hen of the Woods, potato emulsion, sea vegetables & mushroom milk. Has that made your tastebuds stand to attention? Are they clamouring for more? Well, there’s a Discovery Menu too, a taster menu if you like, where you choose either five or all nine courses; go for 9, you’ll want to try them all anyhow, when there dishes like Scallop, lollo rosso, seaweed, oyster & lemon, and thyme, 36 hour aged pork belly, mussels, cauliflower, lovage and plum, and Rhubarb and sorrel custard with blood orange. Divine.
