The Bank House Café, Charmouth, Dorset
There aren’t that many places to eat in Charmouth on the Dorset coast, considering how busy it gets in the summer, but if you fancy a break from the beach, wander up to The Bank House Café in the main street of the village. It’s a friendly little place, one that keeps busy with the locals when it’s not holiday season, so that’s a good sign.
They serve breakfasts, lunches and snacks, including cakes that will seriously test your willpower. If you give in to temptation try the Dorset Apple Cake, it’s made by a local family and by all accounts ‘tis proper job. Everything is homemade and on the menu are the likes of pizzas, burgers, baked potatoes, Ploughman’s, Macaroni cheese, Tempura battered hake or Sea bass and cod fishcakes with chips and peas, and a Vegetable Penang curry. If it’s Sunday and you can find a table spare, good for you because that’s when they serve their hearty roast dinners.
