The English Riviera, Devon
The English Riviera is the name given to 22 miles of spectacular coastline in South Devon, encompassing breathtaking scenery of coast and countryside, and taking in the welcoming towns of Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham. The area is particularly famous for its clean, award winning beaches, fresh sea air and exotic palm trees – hence the ‘English Riviera’ arose in Victorian times when it was likened to the balmy French Riviera. The area was awarded Global Geopark status in 2007.
