The Exe Valley Way, Exford, Exmoor, Somerset
The Exe Valley Way follows the route of the River Exe from source to sea, so strictly speaking, the starting point is high up on the moor about 7 miles or so from Exford. Then it flows down through the village and onwards through some astoundingly beautiful river valleys within Exmoor National Park and on through Dulverton into Devon where it passes through Bampton, Tiverton and Exeter before flowing into the sea at Exmouth.
At around 50 miles long, The Exe Valley Way isn’t a particularly long walking route, but if you want to do small sections at a time it can easily be divided into 10 stages. Plan them well and make time to stop for a picnic or for lunch at a country pub – Topsham, Bickleigh Mill, and Withypool are all rather splendid spots.
