The Old Thatched Cottage, Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset
The Old Thatched Cottage is a popular restaurant that’s been run by the same family for over 65 years, and boy, does this place have some history! It’s got the only thatched roof left in the whole of Weston-Super-Mare and, dating back to 1774, is the oldest building in town.
Inside is traditional yet uncluttered, with original features and plenty of charm. Outside there’s a glass fronted terrace overlooking the seafront, with firepits for when it gets a bit chilly in the evenings. The ambience is relaxed and they like you to feel at home, so the people who work here look after you.
Food is served from an all-day dining menu of pub classics, British favourites and modern European dishes. Steaks and seafood are their speciality and there are daily specials. The kind of things you’ll find on the menu are Homemade fishcakes, Pan fried sea bass, Kleftiko, Pork belly confit, Homemade cottage pie, Chicken Slouvaki, and locally sourced burgers. It’s all good and the portion sizes certainly won’t leave you feeling hungry; even so, it would only be right to finish off your dinner with homemade pud.
